Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran reopens year and half after attack

The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry has announced that the country's embassy in the Islamic Republic of Iran has resumed its activities, almost 1.5 years after the attack on the diplomatic mission.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by Report.az.

It is noted that the decision was made following negotiations between Baku and Tehran, the ambassador and the current staff of the diplomatic mission are already in Iran.

 "Iran, in turn, has taken appropriate measures to ensure the security of the new embassy building in accordance with its obligations under the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations. Necessary measures are currently being taken to organize the consular service at the embassy and additional information will be provided in the near future," the Foreign Ministry said.

As reported, on the morning of January 27, 2023, an armed attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Iran took place. The attacker broke through the security post and killed the head of the security service with a Kalashnikov rifle. Two other members of the embassy's security staff were injured while repelling the attack. After that, the diplomatic mission of Azerbaijan ceased its activities in Tehran.
