India has summoned Ukraine's ambassador to discuss President Volodymyr Zelensky's recent criticism of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin.

That's according to The Economic Times, Ukrinform reports.

The Indian Foreign Ministry summoned the Ukrainian ambassador on Monday, July 15.

"This clearly indicates New Delhi's displeasure with the Ukrainian dispensation on the issue of Zelensky's comments against the PM," the statement reads.

In particular, it emerged that India had postponed a meeting of the joint working group on culture with Ukraine in the backdrop of the incident

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin at his residence in Novo-Ogaryovo on July 8, when Russian forces launched a missile strike on the Okhmatdyt Children's Hospital in Kyiv, and published photos of him hugging Putin.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky reacted to this act by the Indian PM, recalling that Russia's brutal missile attack on Ukraine on July 8 had killed 37 people and left 170 others injured. According to him, it is "a huge disappointment and a devastating blow to peace efforts to see the leader of the world's largest democracy hug the world's most bloody criminal in Moscow on such a day."
