Hungary only EU country not to sign statement condemning Russia at UNSC
That’s according to an Ukrinform correspondent in New York.
Among the EU member states, only Hungary delegated its foreign minister, Peter Szijjártó, to attend the ministerial-level event chaired by Russia’s top diplomat Sergei Lavrov.
It should be noted that only a small number of ministers were present at the event.
Among the Security Council members, only Switzerland was represented at the ministerial level. Among the non-members of the Security Council, Hungary, Iran, Libya, and Kuwait delegated their ministers. Belarus and Thailand were represented at the level of deputy ministers.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, Russia convened the UN Security Council event on Tuesday to discuss issues of multilateral cooperation in order to divert the attention of the international community from Moscow's flagrant violations of the UN Charter and its abuses in the Security Council.
More than 50 countries condemned Russia's actions and supported Ukraine by signing a corresponding statement, which was read out by Ukraine's Permanent Representative to the UN, Sergiy Kyslytsya.
Lavrov is on July 16-17 at the UN Headquarters, taking advantage of the fact that Russia chairs the Security Council this month.
