Friends of Ukraine, NATO allies should help Ukraine tackle Russian invaders because it is in their own interest.

This was stated by the UK Minister of Defense, John Healey, who spoke at a joint press conference with the Minister of Defense of Germany, Boris Pistorius, in Berlin on July 24, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"It is in the interest of every European nation that Ukraine prevails, that Putin fails, because if he wins in Ukraine, he will not stop at Ukraine. So, the defense of European security starts in Ukraine," Healey emphasized.

He noted that his first step in office was a visit to Odesa, on his second day in office, where he met with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky, and his team. "I went there to pledge that we will speed up the aid that the UK had already promised. We will do that within a hundred days," Healey said.

He noted that his country will accelerate the supply of additional ammunition, rifles, and boats, as well as certain types of modern capabilities that the armed forces need on the battlefield.

The minister confirmed UK Government’s readiness to allocate GBP 3 billion sterling for military aid to Ukraine this year and every year thereafter. In addition, London will help other allies to increase their aid to Ukraine in order to guarantee its advantage in the war, according to the minister.

He called the Joint Defense Declaration signed in Berlin the first of its kind, and expressed confidence that it will help strengthen and deepen relations between the two countries, especially in view of Russia's war against Ukraine. Healey stressed that changing the ways of waging war requires strengthening cooperation in the field of arms design and production.

On Thursday, Healey plans to visit Estonia, where the UK mission is based.
