Zelensky, Rutte discuss bolstering Ukraine's air defenses

In a phone call with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky discussed the transfer to Ukraine of air defense systems that are capable of shooting down new Russian ballistic missiles.

Zelensky thanked Rutte for organizing an extraordinary meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council, which was held on November 26 at Ukraine's request. At the meeting, the Ukrainian side presented detailed information regarding Russia's use of a new ballistic missile that targeted Dnipro.

Zelensky stated that Ukraine expects a decisive and timely response from the Alliance to Russia's expansion of the war.

In particular, on December 3 and 4, a meeting of the NATO-Ukraine Council at the foreign minister level will be held in Brussels.

Ukraine relies on support for the transfer of air defense systems capable of intercepting such missiles, Zelensky said.

The list of air defense systems in service with NATO countries was handed over to Ukraine's partners.

Zelensky also stressed the importance of Ukraine receiving an invitation to NATO and continuing its defense cooperation with the Alliance.

A separate focus of the conversation was the supply of long-range weapons and the critical need to transfer weapons from the announced aid packages.

Additionally, the conversation addressed the supply of long-range weaponry and the urgent need to deliver arms from the previously announced aid packages.

Zelensky and Rutte also discussed the global risks posed by the alliance between Russia, Iran and North Korea, particularly the issue of Russia transferring its modern military technologies in exchange for weapons.

On November 21, Russian forces struck Dnipro with an experimental ballistic missile without a warhead, which is intended to carry nuclear weapons.

On November 25, at Ukraine's request, the UN Security Council discussed Russia's use of a medium-range missile to strike Dnipro and the participation of North Korean troops in the war against Ukraine.

On November 26, the NATO-Ukraine Council announced Russia's unsuccessful attempt to intimidate the world.
