EU ambassadors agree on 15th package of sanctions against Russia, targeting in particular ‘shadow fleet’
The Hungarian presidency of the EU Council announced this on social media platform X, Ukrinform reports.
It is noted that the 15th package of sanctions will include new measures against Russia's “shadow fleet” - additional vessels of third states operating to contribute or support actions or policies supporting Russia’s actions against Ukraine.
The package adds more persons and entities to the already existing sanctions list, and targets entities in Russia and in third countries other than Russia that “indirectly contribute to Russia’s military and technological enhancement through the circumvention of export restrictions.”
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen welcomed the approval of a new package of sanctions against Russia.
“The EU and its G7 partners are committed to keeping a pressure on the Kremlin. I welcome the agreement on our 15th package of sanctions, targeting in particular Russia’s shadow fleet,” she posted on X.
As Ukrinform reported, in early November, EU High Representative Josep Borrell said that the 15th package of sanctions against Russia would strengthen measures to counteract the circumvention of restrictions in order to isolate the Russian industry from imports.
