Zelensky on U.S. memorandum: Ready for talks with Trump on NATO, security guarantees
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced this during a press briefing at the Munich Security Conference, Ukrinform reports.
"I believe this is very important. I have conveyed to President Trump that I am ready at any moment. I know all the numbers. I am truly ready to talk at any time. We understand the geography of our country. We clearly see where the greatest risks lie. We are ready to discuss everything: from troop deployments to security guarantees, from 'we are in NATO' to 'NATO is with us' -- we are open to any framework that will stop Putin. We are open," Zelensky said.
According to him, Ukrainian legal experts have worked on an agreement that could be signed between Ukraine and the U.S.
"We want to act according to the law, in line with international law, and as a preventive measure against the horrors of Putin's return. We have conveyed this message to the Americans. This memorandum, which could serve as the basis for one, two, three, or even five agreements, is an important economic step to protect our resources. […] Our legal experts have worked on it. We have now passed it on to the American side. We will see what happens with this memorandum," the president said.
Earlier, a source in the Ukrainian delegation informed Ukrinform that after receiving the revised document, the U.S. side requested time until 17:00 to review and work on it.
On February 12, during a visit to Kyiv, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent handed over a draft partnership agreement between the two countries to the Ukrainian side. President Zelensky stated that his team was doing everything possible to study the document's details quickly so it could be signed as soon as possible "for the Munich Security Conference, ensuring no time is lost."
