Zelensky: Trump's first meeting should be with Ukraine, not Putin

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky stressed the importance of President Donald Trump meeting with the Ukrainian side first, before having any meeting with Vladimir Putin.

Zelensky stated this at the Munich Security Conference on Saturday, Ukrinform reports.

When asked about the concerning nature of Trump's first call being to Putin, he said: "I think it would be more dangerous if the first meeting [of Trump] were with Putin and only then with Ukraine. I shared my position with President Trump that, first and foremost, we need to have a common view."

He also emphasized the necessity of European leaders' involvement in future negotiations.

"I said that we also need Europe at the table. We see our future only in the EU, so this is very important for us," Zelensky said.

He added that not all European leaders support Ukraine and urged participants at the Munich Security Conference to actively address this issue.

"I'll be honest, there are a lot of different voices around the new American administration, and I'm not sure that all of these voices are on our side. That's why we have to work with these people, even with some Europeans, as I said, in Mar-a-Lago," Zelensky added.

When asked if he could name individuals, Zelensky stated: "Of course, I know the names, but I'm not sure it's the right time." He then jokingly clarified, "You said about Orban?"

On February 12, a phone call took place between Presidents Volodymyr Zelensky and Donald Trump. They discussed peace-building possibilities, cooperation in technology, and preparations for a new agreement on security, economic, and resource-related cooperation.
