Zelensky: To avoid postwar fight over Russian assets, they must be seized now
He said this during a press conference following a meeting of country leaders on support for Ukraine and security in Europe in Paris, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
“We are talking about investments. There are several European Union programs, and there are corresponding investments. There are investments due to the fact that we use this money, the tax on these frozen assets, but the safest thing is to be able to take these frozen assets and spend them on what Russia is destroying: rebuilding our logistics, army, building bomb shelters for children, bomb shelters in schools, universities, bomb shelters in hospitals, and so on, and there are many such things,” Zelensky said.
In his opinion, if we do not find a way to take these assets, they may be used to fight the Russians after the war is over.
“I believe that if we do not find a way to take these assets, it may happen that after the war is over, we will all still be fighting with the Russians for these assets. So, in order not to fight later, we need to take them away while we have this opportunity,” Zelensky emphasized.
As reported, Deputy Head of the Presidential Office Iryna Mudra denied the information that the European Union would not confiscate frozen Russian assets. Earlier, some media outlets reported that the European Union had stopped discussing the confiscation of frozen Russian assets.
