Russia is slowing down ceasefire process - British Ambassador
This was stated by British Ambassador to Ukraine Martin Harris in an interview with Ukrinform.
“Ukraine is demonstrating its readiness for an unconditional and full ceasefire. Now the ball is in Russia’s court, Russia must demonstrate practically and realistically whether they are serious about peace,” the ambassador said.
He noted that Britain shares the desire of US President Donald Trump to “stop this barbaric war Russia has been waging against Ukraine immediately,” and added that Ukraine wants a lasting and just peace.
The diplomat believes that Russia's response to such calls remains “inadequate” at this time.
“Ukraine has made clear that it is for a full and unconditional ceasefire right now, President Trump has made clear that there is a real urgency to stop the fighting immediately. And we’ve not heard that from Russia,” the ambassador reminded.
He also emphasized the need to increase pressure on Russia if the Kremlin's position is not aimed at achieving peace.
“Russia is talking about conditions, Russia is stalling on the question of stopping the fighting right now. So I think it is really essential that Russia makes clear its position, and if it’s not going to be for peace, we will increase the pressure on Russia and we will continue to support Ukraine until Russia comes to the negotiating table,” Harris summarized.
As reported, Britain's Permanent Representative to the OSCE, Neil Holland, called on Kremlin leader Vladimir Putin to agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine “without further delay.”
March 11 The delegations of the United States and Ukraine meet in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. Ukraine expresses its readiness to accept the US proposal to immediately introduce a temporary, 30-day ceasefire, provided that the Russian side simultaneously complies with it.
On March 13, US Special Representative Steve Witkoff visited Moscow and met with Putin, among others. The Kremlin said that Putin conveyed “additional information and additional signals” to Trump through Witkoff.
On March 18, U.S. President Donald Trump had a telephone conversation with Putin. The White House announces that Moscow has agreed to a limited ceasefire on energy and infrastructure facilities in Ukraine.
On March 22-25, the United States and Ukraine agreed at talks in Saudi Arabia to ensure safe navigation, avoid the use of force, and prevent the use of commercial vessels for military purposes in the Black Sea.
At the same time, the Kremlin said that the agreement on the safety of navigation in the Black Sea would come into force after some of the restrictions against Russia are lifted.
Against this backdrop, Russia continues to attack peaceful cities and civilian infrastructure in Ukraine on a daily basis.
