Zelensky, Starmer discuss UK role in restoring war-damaged Kyiv Pechersk Lavra
This is according to a statement posted by Zelensky on Facebook and reported by Ukrinform.
“I informed Keir about the consequences of the recent Russian strikes. We discussed the possible participation of the United Kingdom in the restoration of the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, the implementation of the agreements reached during today’s G7–Ukraine meeting, potential areas for further pressure on Russia, and steps to strengthen Ukraine’s air defense,” Zelensky said.
The President noted that the United Kingdom had adopted new measures to support Ukraine, including additional sanctions targeting Russia’s shadow fleet.
“Thank you! All of this works towards peace,” Zelensky stated.
Earlier, Zelensky said that France would help restore the protective shelter at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant, while Switzerland had expressed readiness to assist with projects related to the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra.
During a Russian air attack on Kyiv overnight on June 15–16, a Russian drone struck the altar section of the Lavra’s Dormition Cathedral. According to Ukrainian officials, about 80% of the cathedral’s roof was damaged.
The Kyiv Pechersk Lavra complex is estimated to have suffered damage totaling approximately UAH 500 million as a result of the attack.
