The United States has released the text of a document formalizing an agreement on a cessation of hostilities and future negotiations with Iran.

According to Ukrinform, this was reported by CNN.

“The United States on Wednesday released the official text of the memorandum of understanding reached over the weekend with Iran,” the report said.

The document, titled the “Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding Between the United States of America and the Islamic Republic of Iran,” was published following criticism that its contents had not been made public.

A senior U.S. administration official read out the 14-point document, which outlines provisions for restoring access to the Strait of Hormuz, easing certain financial restrictions on Iran, and setting expectations for addressing Iran’s nuclear program during upcoming technical negotiations.

“This is fundamentally an agreement that allows us to open the Strait of Hormuz immediately, commit the Iranians to destroying the nuclear dust, and then gives us a dial where if the Iranians dial up their good behavior, we respond by dialing up the kind of economic and sanctions relief that can make them a more prosperous country,” the senior U.S. official said.

The memorandum states that the United States and the Islamic Republic of Iran commit to respecting each other’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and to refraining from interference in each other’s internal affairs.

Under the document, the United States pledges to begin lifting its maritime blockade of Iran immediately after the memorandum is signed and to fully remove it within 30 days. Washington also commits to withdrawing forces from Iran’s borders within 30 days of a final agreement.

The memorandum is scheduled to be formally signed on Friday, triggering a 60-day period of negotiations on the final terms of a peace agreement.
