Verkhovna Rada Chairman Andriy Parubiy has handed the exarchs of the Ecumenical Patriarch an invitation for His All Holiness Bartholomew to visit Ukraine and deliver a speech in the Ukrainian parliament.

The speaker said this at a meeting with the exarchs of the Ecumenical Patriarch in Ukraine, Archbishop Daniel of Pamphilon from the United States and Bishop Ilarion of Edmonton from Canada, according to an Ukrinform correspondent.

"One of the most important decisions we are expecting is the decision on a tomos. I want to thank all people's deputies and the entire Ukrainian people for the Ecumenical Patriarch's response to our call. I remember with warmth our meeting with him, when we spoke for hours about the possibility of granting a tomos to Ukraine. I want to hand over to you an invitation for His All Holiness Patriarch to come to Ukraine and deliver a speech in the Verkhovna Rada. We very much believe and hope that we will be able to get the decision on the tomos by the end of this year," Parubiy said.

Bishop Ilarion, in turn, said that "if circumstances permit, His All Holiness will visit Ukraine and will be present in this Verkhovna Rada."
