Bohdan Kravchuk, former student of the Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European National University in Lutsk, has become the first Ukrainian with Down syndrome to complete higher education. He earned a bachelor's degree in History, according to Lesia Bondaruk, a representative of the Institute of National Remembrance.

"I remember how we and his mother, Yevheniya Kinakh, fought for his right to higher education five years ago," Bondaruk wrote on her Facebook page on Thursday, July 11.

She thanked then-Minister of Education and Science, Serhiy Kvit, and his deputy Pavlo Poliansky, "who understood and supported the right of children with special needs to higher education." Additionally, gratitude was expressed to Anatoliy Shvab, the dean of the historical faculty of the Lesya Ukrainka Eastern European National University.

"The example of Bohdan is a ray of hope for many parents of children with special needs, because now they know that if you believe in your children and develop their opportunities, then dreams come true," Bondaruk said.

She also noted that Kravchuk was a dedicated student and often excelled in his academics.
