No coronavirus in Ukraine as of Jan 27 – Public Health Center
"The data spread by Kyiv City Laboratory Center of the Ukrainian Health Ministry has been specified. The diagnosed coronavirus is not of the 2019-nCoV type. Therefore, no case of a novel coronavirus has been reported in Ukraine so far," the report reads.
The Public Health Center contacted media outlets that spread unspecified information with the request to supplement it with new data.
In addition, the center said that if the novel coronavirus is detected, the public would be informed by the Health Ministry and the Public Health Center.
Earlier, Kyiv City Laboratory Center of the Ukrainian Health Ministry published statistics on the incidence of influenza and acute respiratory infections in Kyiv, as well as the findings of studies of samples, including human coronavirus HKU1.
Cases of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus (nCoV) have been reported in China since December 2019. It was determined that the source of the virus may be animals. Cases of the disease have already been confirmed in Thailand, Japan, South Korea, the United States, Vietnam, Malaysia, Nepal, Russia, France, Australia, and Cambodia.
According to the latest data, 80 people have already died of the disease, and the number of infected patients has grown to 2,744.
Coronaviruses are a large family of viruses that can cause illness ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases like Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS). The major symptoms of the coronavirus are fever and dyspnoea.
