A golden tamga depicted on a blue background of the Crimean Tatar flag has become a symbol of unbrokenness and courage for the whole world.

"Today, we celebrate the Day of the Crimean Tatar Flag. The flag was approved in 1917, and the holiday began to be celebrated in 2010 and was endorsed by decision of the V Qurultay of the Crimean Tatar People. A golden tamga on a blue background has become a symbol of unbrokenness and courage of the Crimean Tatar people for the whole world, the struggle for their rights, the struggle for the return of Crimea to Ukraine," reads the greeting of the Office of the President of Ukraine on the Day of the Crimean Tatar Flag, published on Facebook

Crimean Tatars are persecuted and discriminated in the occupied Crimea due to their clear pro-Ukrainian position and Crimean Tatars make up the majority of political prisoners, the President's Office emphasized.

"Server Mustafayev, Seyran Saliyev, the Abdullayev brothers, Emir-Usein Kuku are all true prisoners of conscience, and we will do everything possible to ensure that they return home as soon as possible," the statement reads.

As noted in the greeting, it is very important to make every effort to restore the historical justice and rights of the Crimean Tatar people as the indigenous people of Ukraine.

"Of course, we would like to celebrate this holiday in Crimea, in the Motherland of Crimean Tatars. The President of Ukraine has repeatedly stated that the return of Crimea should become our national idea, the idea of every Ukrainian and Crimean Tatar, our entire state and the world. Therefore, we are convinced that golden tamga on the blue flag will fly over Chatyr-Dah and Ai-Petri, in Bakhchisarai, Yalta and Sevastopol. Crimea is Ukraine!" the greeting reads.

The Crimean Tatar Flag Day is a day of honoring the national flag of the Crimean Tatars, the indigenous people of Crimea. It has been celebrated since June 26, 2010.
