Health Ministry seeks to improve emergency care sector – Stepanov

The Ukrainian government decided to allocate additional UAH 1.260 billion in budget funds for the emergency care sector, according to Health Minister Maksym Stepanov.

“We increased it [the funding] by 40%... The government decided to allocate an additional UAH 1.260 billion for the current year. These funds will be used, first of all, to raise salaries and strengthen the material and technical fundaments of emergency medical services,” Stepanov said at a briefing on July 13, an Ukrinform correspondent reported.

According to the minister, UAH 922 million in budget funds will be used for the purchase of 400 new ambulances that will be distributed among the regions. In total, the ministry plans to purchase 1,800 of such vehicles and update the fleet of emergency medical care within the next 2-3 years.

Stepanov also added that the ministry would transfer UAH 1.2 billion of these funds to training and education centers in the emergency care sector.
