Five percent of Ukrainians would like to become the president of Ukraine, whereas 9% would like to be lawmakers, according to a survey conducted by the Rating sociological group between September 19 and September 22 this year.

A significant number of respondents said they did not mind participating in the political and social life of their region (45%), but not as members of local councils, but through elections, delegating authority to others.

It was found that only 13% of respondents would like to be members of local councils, 9% - members of parliament, 7% - heads of cities or villages, and 5% would like to be their country's president.

At the same time, citizens want to elect not only deputies or mayors, but also regional governors (83%), local judges (71%) and prosecutors (68%). A further 57% support the idea of creating a municipal police subordinate to local authorities, and 30% are against it.

Respondents believe that control over the activities of the newly elected local authorities should be exercised by the citizens themselves (50%).

The survey was conducted among residents of Ukraine aged 18 and older in all regions, except for the temporarily occupied territories of Crimea and Donbas. The sample is representative in terms of age, sex and type of settlement. A total of 5,000 respondents were interviewed. The survey was conducted using the CATI method (computer assisted telephone interviews, based on a random sample of mobile phone numbers). The poll's margin of error does not exceed 1.4%.
