Strengthened quarantine to be imposed in Ukraine on January 8-24

"Strengthened quarantine measures will be imposed in Ukraine from January 8 to 24 next year. Let's call them ‘winter vacations’ for safety reasons. This is done to prevent a new powerful prevalence wave," Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said at the Cabinet’s meeting on Wednesday, December 9, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

Prime Minister Shmyhal presented the list of corresponding restrictions.

Over the period of stricter quarantine measures on January 8-24, 2021, it will be prohibited to hold holiday concerts and public events. Operation of nightclubs, hostels, shopping and entertainment centers, except for the purchase of basic necessities, will be banned.

"All educational institutions, except for kindergartens, will be closed for vacations. Any entertainment, advertising, sports, cultural events will be banned during this period," Shmyhal said.

Cinemas and theaters will not work also. Cafes, bars, restaurants will be allowed to provide a takeaway service. Beauty salons, gyms and fitness centers will be closed.

The operation of food and non-food markets will be banned.

Public transport will continue to operate.

As reported, 12,585 new coronavirus cases have been recorded in Ukraine in the past 24 hours, bringing the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 845,343.
