Ukraine to start receiving COVID-19 vaccine in Feb – Ambassador Maasikas
He said this at a meeting of the Commission for Coordination of the Implementation of the EU-Ukraine Association Agreement on February 3, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"The issue of vaccination against coronavirus has come to the fore. Vaccines under the EU-supported COVAX Facility will begin to arrive in February. Ukraine and other neighboring countries are a priority for the European Union," Maasikas said.
He reminded that the EU promptly responded to the challenges related to the pandemic and provided Ukraine with EUR 190 million in assistance and EUR 1.2 billion in financial support.
"These are unprecedented volumes for a crisis year," the diplomat stressed.
On February 2, Deputy Health Minister, Chief State Sanitary Doctor of Ukraine Viktor Liashko said that Ukraine has a clear phased plan for vaccination against COVID-19, and that Ukraine will receive 117,000 doses of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine in February.
Ukraine expects to receive from 8 to 16 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine free of charge as part of the global COVAX initiative.
The Health Ministry plans to vaccinate 50% of the population of Ukraine in 2021-2022.
