British ambassador welcomes delivery of COVID-19 vaccines to Ukraine
According to Ukrinform, Simmons wrote this on Twitter.
"Really happy to see the delivery of AstraZeneca (aka Covishield) vaccines in Ukraine today. Congratulations Crown Agents and the Ministry of Health of Ukraine. The UK is now working with the WHO Country Office in Ukraine to train mobile teams to administer the vaccine and turn the tide of the pandemic in Ukraine," the ambassador wrote.
As was reported earlier, half a million doses of the Oxford/AstraZeneca (CoviShield) vaccine arrived in Ukraine on February 23 and will be delivered to the regions immediately after customs clearance.
On February 22, the Ministry of Health of Ukraine registered the Oxford/AstraZeneca coronavirus vaccine for emergency use.
The vaccine was developed by Oxford University and the British-Swedish company AstraZeneca. The Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine has already been approved by the World Health Organization for emergency use. The United Kingdom, the European Union and India have also given their permission for its use.
In total, Ukraine plans to purchase 12 million doses of Oxford/AstraZeneca and Novavax vaccines from the state budget. Procurement will be carried out by the British procurement agency Crown Agents.
Minister of Health Maksym Stepanov said earlier that he had agreed with the Serum Institute of India to supply Ukraine with an additional five million doses of Novavax vaccines.
