Zelensky calls for creation of modern vaccine development lab
He said this at a traditional conference call on the fight against the coronavirus pandemic, according to the website of the President's Office.
"We need to gather our brightest heads and provide them with working conditions at the level of Western specialists. Ukraine needs such a laboratory not only during this pandemic. In general, this may become a solution to the challenges of the future," Zelensky said.
According to the report, UAH 100 million has been envisaged in this year's state budget for the creation of such a laboratory. The Ministry of Health is looking for ways to solve this problem.
Ministry of Health representatives reported on the work on the plan to purchase the COVID-19 vaccine and vaccinate the population. The government plans to vaccinate up to 70% of the adult population by the end of the year.
Ukraine began vaccinating the population against coronavirus on February 24. A batch of 500,000 doses of the COVID-19 Covishield vaccine, developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca, arrived in Ukraine on February 23.
The first batch of the vaccine from China's Sinovac Biotech arrived in Ukraine on March 25, and its use began on April 13.
The first batch of the coronavirus vaccine developed by Pfizer-BioNTech was delivered to Ukraine on April 16.
