Ukraine-UAE memorandum on recognition of driver’s licenses to enter into force on Oct 1

According to Ukrinform, this issue was discussed at a meeting between Deputy Interior Minister of Ukraine Meri Akopyan and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UAE to Ukraine Salem Ahmed Ali AlKaabi, the Ukrainian ministry’s press service informs.

"On September 8, Akopyan met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Arab Emirates to Ukraine Salem Ahmed Ali AlKaabi. The parties stressed the importance of the entry into force on October 1, 2021 of the Memorandum of Understanding on mutual recognition and exchange of national driver’s licenses, which was signed on February 14, 2021 in Abu Dhabi, between the Interior Ministry of Ukraine and the Interior Ministry of the United Arab Emirates,” reads the report.

The parties also discussed the current bilateral cooperation between the Interior Ministries of Ukraine and the UAE and noted its intensification following this year's visit of the Ukrainian delegation to this Middle Eastern country led by the President of Ukraine.

The parties also stressed the successful practical implementation of the agreement on cooperation in the fight against crime and terrorism, which was concluded between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the United Arab Emirates in 2018.

For his part, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the UAE to Ukraine sent an invitation letter to Interior Minister Denys Monastyrsky to the World Expo 2020, which is scheduled for October in Dubai.

As reported, on June 9, 2021, the Cabinet of Ministers approved a Memorandum of Understanding between the Interior Ministry of Ukraine and the Interior Ministry of UAE on mutual recognition and exchange of national driver's licenses.
