Kuleba meets with head of Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church

Ukrainian Minister for Foreign Affairs Dmytro Kuleba and Head of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church (UGCC), His Beatitude Sviatoslav Shevchuk have discussed joint project in the field of preserving historical memory, Ukrinform reports, referring to the ministry’s press service.

The UGCC head presented Kuleba with a letter of recognition for the ministry’s contribution to the erection of a monument to Blessed Priest Omelian Kovch.

Kuleba thanked the UGCC head for recognizing the role of the state in perpetuating the memory of Omelian Kovch and praised the long-term trusting cooperation between the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the UGCC.

The minister assured that preserving the memory of Ukrainians who saved Jews from the Holocaust during the Second World War, in particular Omelian Kovch and Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky are among important areas of the ministry's tasks.

The interlocutors also discussed a number of joint projects in the field of preserving historical memory. Kuleba praised the UGCC's readiness to support the relevant ministry’s initiatives.

As Ukrinform reported, on October 4, a monument to Omelian Kovch, a native of Zakarpattia region and “pastor of the Majdanek concentration camp”, was unveiled in Lublin, Poland.
