"The facility will be a safe place for victims of domestic violence. Besides accommodation, they will be able to get psychological and legal assistance, as well as various types of counseling. Women will be able to live here with their children as the appropriate conditions will be created for raising them. The institution is designed host 15 persons at a time. It will also be available for limited mobility groups. Construction works are on schedule as preparations are set to complete in the near future, so we plan to open the facility at the end of autumn,” Khonda said.
She added that the address of the facility will not be disclosed for security considerations. It will be possible to get to the shelter under the guidance of the chief of the Kyiv City Center for Gender Equality, Counteraction and Prevention of Violence.
Khonda noted that the shelter, which already operates in the city, has already hosted 38 people, including 22 women and 16 children.
As Ukrinform reported earlier, the goal of the Kyiv City Center for Gender Equality, Prevention and Counteraction to Violence is to help realize equal rights of women and men by ensuring gender equality in all areas of public life, implement social and educational programs and training courses, and provide social services to victims of domestic and gender-based violence.
