Sentsov's Rhino wins two awards at Stockholm International Film Festival
"The Best Picture: Rhino by Oleg Sentsov," reads the announcement on festival's Facebook page.
In addition, Ukrainian Serhii Filimonov, who performed the leading role in Rhino, won the Best Actor award.
As reported, Rhino is the second full-length motion picture by Ukrainian director Oleg Sentsov. In 2012, the project was presented at the industry platform of the Sofia International Film Festival, where it received awards for Best Project and Best Pitching. However, the production of the movie was suspended due to Sentsov's illegal arrest by Russian security services in 2014 and his subsequent imprisonment. After the director's release in 2019, the work on the project was resumed.
The movie is based on a true story of the 1990s in Ukraine. The protagonist, nicknamed Rhino, found himself in the underworld and starts his bloody path, which will lead him not where he expected.
The shooting of Rhino took place in Kryvyi Rih, Lviv, and Kyiv and ended in December 2020. The leading roles are performed by Serhii Filimonov, Yevhen Chernikov, Yevhen Hryhoriev, and Alina Zevakova.
The film production was supported by the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy of Ukraine, the Ukrainian State Film Agency, the EURIMAGES Fund, the Polish Film Institute, and the German film fund Medienboard Berlin-Brandenburg.
