Ukraine signed a UAH 648 million contract for the purchase of 225 oxygen stations for COVID-19 patients.

This was discussed at a conference call chaired by President Volodymyr Zelensky on December 28, Ukrinform reports with reference to the press service of the Head of State.

“The Cabinet of Ministers said that oxygen stations were additionally purchased to provide beds for COVID-19 patients in need of oxygen therapy. Contracts were signed for the purchase of 225 oxygen stations for a total of UAH 648 million,” the President’s Office informs.

According to the Ministry of Health, 116,000 patients are currently infected with COVID-19 in Ukraine. Some 18,000 beds are occupied in medical facilities, accounting for 26% of the total bed stock.

As noted, 28.05 million COVID-19 vaccine shots have been given: 14.6 million people have been vaccinated, of whom 13.4 million people already received two doses.

“Taking into account the incidence rates, the ‘red’ level of epidemic danger in Zhytomyr, Sumy, Mykolaiv, Kyiv and Cherkasy regions was abolished last week. In the near future, the issue of possible abolition of the ‘red’ level of epidemiological danger in Volyn and Zaporizhzhia regions will also be considered,” reads the statement.

In early November, the Verkhovna Rada passed law No. 5460 which amends the 2021 state budget by allocating UAH 800 million for oxygen stations for hospitals.
