Omicron variant detected in 20 regions of Ukraine – Health Ministry
"The Omicron variant has been detected in 20 regions of the country. The highest number of confirmed cases has been registered in Zhytomyr, Chernivtsi, Ternopil regions and the city of Kyiv," the report says.
According to the Health Ministry, the number of new confirmed cases last week almost doubled compared to the previous week: 194,000 against 110,000 cases.
The ministry notes that a rise in cases was due to the rapid spread of Omicron variant in Ukraine.
According to the Ministry of Health, Ukraine currently ranks 46th among 54 territories of the European region of the World Health Organization in terms of the number of cases per 100,000 people over the last 14 days.
Based on these data, the Health Ministry urges Ukrainians to get vaccinated against coronavirus and notes that vaccination is especially important for people at risk, as it significantly raises the chances of preventing the deadly effects of the disease for this group of people.
As Ukrinform reported, 4,064,495 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed in Ukraine since the start of the pandemic. On January 30, Ukraine recorded 22,026 new COVID-19 cases.
