Ukraine marks Unity Day

On February 16, Ukraine marks a new national holiday – Unity Day.

The relevant decree No. 53/2022 was published on the website of the Head of State.

Ukraine will celebrate Unity Day at the state level annually on February 16. Ukrainians are urged to fly national flags and attach blue and yellow ribbons to clothing.

According to the decree, the State Flag of Ukraine will be raised on buildings in all populated localities, the National Anthem of Ukraine will be performed at 10:00. Ukraine’s foreign missions will hold relevant events aimed at uniting and supporting Ukraine.

In addition, on February 15, the Cabinet of Ministers approved an action plan to mark Unity Day.

Prime Minister Shmyhal said that at the initiative of President Volodymyr Zelensky, payments to service members of the Armed Forces would grow by 30% from March 1, 2022.

In addition, the financial support for the State Border Guard Service and the National Guard will increase by 20% from the beginning of 2022 (taking into account the decision on a 10% increase from February 1). This is provided for in the action plan approved by the Government in pursuance of the Presidential Decree of February 14, 2022 No. 53/2022 "On urgent measures to consolidate Ukrainian society".
