Moscow behind anti-Ukraine protest in Budapest - Hungarian MEP
This was stated in a comment to Guildhall by Attila Ara-Kovacs, Member of the European Parliament and a member of the committees on security and foreign affairs.
“The so-called World Federation of Hungarians is behind the anti-Ukrainian demonstration organised in Budapest on 30 January 2023. To understand the real political nature of the demonstration, it is important to know: in the 90s, even the Hungarian nationalists considered this organisation as a creature of the former Romanian communist secret service,” the MEP said.
The World Federation of Hungarians, he added, “is made up of a bunch of elderly, far-right extremists who are ‘spiritual’ descendants of the former Hungarian fascist movement, and Moscow’s influence on them is more than evident. This insignificant grouping often justifies the efforts of Viktor Orban's government, which are rejected by everyone in Europe and indeed in the entire civilised world,” the lawmaker concluded.
As reported earlier, January 28, 2023, the World Organization of Hungarians organized a rally outside the Ukrainian Embassy in Budapest, accusing Ukraine of allegedly forcibly mobilizing Hungarians for military service to repel the Russian invasion.
