Ukrainian flag from Bakhmut handed over to NATO Summit in Vilnius
"At the Ukraine–Poland border, border guards met the participants of the ultramarathon which started in Kyiv on June 25. The athletes were running carrying the flag of Ukraine, which they received from the Ukrainian military from Bakhmut. In particular, they ran through Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Rivne, and Volyn regions," the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine reports.
As noted, a team of Ukrainian runners handed over the flag to their friends from Lithuania at the border crossing point “Ustyluh” yesterday. They will deliver the Ukrainian flag to Vilnius, where they plan to raise it before the NATO Summit on July 11.
"With this action, we want to draw the attention of the international community to the war in Ukraine and bring closer its opportunity to become the 33rd member of the North Atlantic Alliance. In Lithuania, people will hang Ukrainian flags on houses, on balconies, on bridges when NATO Summit will be held so that all delegations will see the flags on all the roads where they will drive," said Dominykas Kubilius, the organizer of the race.
As reported, Vilnius municipality is joining the initiative to support Ukraine's accession to NATO: on July 7-11, on the eve of and during the summit, no less than 33,000 Ukrainian flags will be flown in the capital of Lithuania.
