Ukraine to join School Meals Coalition
According to the Ministry of Health, Ukrainian specialists presented the results of the food system reform at educational institutions to the delegates from more than 90 countries.
The Ukrainian delegation took part in negotiations with representatives of international organizations and governments of other countries that are implementing national school meal reforms. The next step for Ukraine will be membership in the Coalition.
In his speech at the summit, Deputy Minister of Health - Chief State Sanitary Doctor Ihor Kuzin told about the implementation of school meal reform that began in Ukraine in 2020. Despite the full-scale war, it was possible to create an effective mechanism that allows every educational institution in Ukraine to qualitatively change approaches to student nutrition.
According to him, Ukraine approved new standards and regulations, amended the procedure for food organization at educational institutions and children's health and recreation institutions. In addition, three technological models of food organization at educational institutions have been developed. Each school chooses a convenient model that will help ensure all children have equal access to quality food.
Ukraine's participation in the Coalition and establishing contacts with the international community will contribute to attracting financial support for the main areas of the reform: provision of free meals to wider categories of children, acceleration of modernization of kitchens and canteens at schools and preschool educational institutions.
