Ukraine’s Interior Ministry receives over 175,000 applications for firearm permits

Since the launch of the Unified Register of Weapons in Ukraine, the Ministry of Internal Affairs has received more than 175,000 applications for various types of weapons permits.

Minister of Internal Affairs Ihor Klymenko announced this on Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

"In March, we announced that the full launch of the register was scheduled for June 2023. After months of hard work, the URW was launched on June 23, which allowed us to strengthen control over firearms trafficking while simplifying the process of obtaining permits for citizens. As of the end of the year, Ukrainians have submitted more than 175,000 applications for various types of weapons permits," he said.

According to the minister, police officers have approved almost 164,500 decisions to issue the relevant permits.

Klymenko assured that the matter of accounted and registered weapons is one of the key areas of the ministry’s work.

As reported, on December 12, the Ministry of Internal Affairs said that since the launch of the Unified Register of Weapons, it had received more than 149,000 applications for relevant permits.
