Moscow police detain tourist sporting sweatshirt with Ukrainian symbols

On May 4, an Iranian tourist was detained downtown Moscow for wearing a Balenciaga sweatshirt with the print of the Ukrainian flag, tridents, and a call to help displaced Ukrainians.

This was reported by the ASTRA Telegram channel June 5.

The 30-year-old tourist was taken to the Kytay-gorod Police Department, where he was charged with "discrediting" the Russian army. The administrative case was forwarded to a court in Moscow.

Later, it was clarified that the court found the Iranian guilty of "discrediting" the Russian army and fined him 50,000 rubles ($560).

ASTRA notes that the Balenciaga clothing brand in 2022 joined the United24 platform, which raises aid to Ukraine. Demna Gvasalia, Balenciaga’s creative chief, became the ambassador for the United24 platform. At the same time, the brand developed a sweatshirt with Ukrainian symbols. All profits off sales go to the United24 platform to help displaced Ukrainians.
