Ukraine, Finland finalize agreement to create coalition for shelter construction – Shmyhal

The creation of a "civil defense shelter coalition" with Finland will significantly enhance Ukraine's capabilities in the area of shelter construction.

Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said this during a government meeting on March 21, Ukrinform reports, citing his Telegram channel.

"During President Volodymyr Zelensky's visit to Finland, agreements were finalized to create a 'civil defense shelter coalition.' This will significantly strengthen our capabilities in this area," he said.

Shmyhal added that the government is also giving special attention to humanitarian demining. He recalled that according to the World Bank, full demining of Ukrainian territory would require about $30 billion.

"Right now, we are prioritizing the demining of agricultural land. We understand how crucial this is in the context of the upcoming planting season. We already have more than 80 certified demining operators and over 200 demining vehicles," he said.

According to Shmyhal, this year's plans include technical surveying of areas totaling 31,000 square kilometers.

President Volodymyr Zelensky announced the signing of an agreement on March 19 in Finland, which will initiate the creation of a civil defense coalition to build shelters in Ukraine.
