Plans are underway to open 10 additional underground schools in Zaporizhzhia and the region by September 1.

Ivan Fedorov, head of the Zaporizhzhia Regional Military Administration, announced the initiative via Telegram, Ukrinform reports.

“There are currently six operational schools where children attend lessons daily. Five more are under construction, and we aim to open the next one between April and May. By September 1, we plan to establish a total of 10 more underground schools, accommodating up to 10,000 students,” Fedorov stated.

He emphasized that these facilities are full-fledged educational institutions, enabling children to learn and prepare for the National Multi-subject Test (NMT). The project is fully funded by the state, with 11 schools already financed and an additional 12 awaiting approval.

As earlier reported by Ukrinform, the Ministry of Education and Science announced the opening of the sixth underground school in Zaporizhzhia. This school includes 15 classrooms, recreational spaces, a medical center, a cloakroom, and a cafeteria. It provides offline education for children in two shifts, as well as full-time learning for nearby kindergarten pupils.
