Zelensky meets with rabbis and representatives of Jewish communities
He announced this on Telegram, according to Ukrinform.
“On the occasion of Passover, I met with rabbis from Ukrainian cities and representatives of Jewish communities,” he said.
The head of state emphasized that Passover “is about the victory of freedom. This is exactly what all of Ukraine is fighting for today.”
Zelensky thanked the Jewish community for their unity in this struggle for freedom: for supporting the people, helping communities, and praying for our country.
“I am grateful for this special gift—the first Torah translated into Ukrainian and printed at a Kharkiv printing house that the Russians tried to destroy,” the President added.
As previously reported, every spring Jews celebrate Passover—one of the most important Jewish holidays. Passover is a holiday commemorating the liberation of the ancient Israelites from slavery in Egypt. It is celebrated in Nisan—the first month of the year in the Jewish religious calendar. This usually falls in March or April. Passover celebrations in Israel last seven days, while outside of Israel, including in Ukraine, they last eight.
