Germany to continue helping Ukraine’s energy sector
That's according to the ministry's press service, Ukrinform reports.
Svitlana Hrynchuk thanked Germany for supporting the Ukrainian energy sector and especially emphasized the importance of Germany's contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund, set up on the joint initiative of Energy Minister German Galushchenko and European Commissioner Kadri Simson.
"Today, thanks to our foreign and international partners who have become sponsors of the Fund, the amount of obligations regarding grant contributions has already increased to more than EUR 400 million. We greatly appreciate that Germany's total contribution has been the largest since the Fund’s inception and currently amounts to EUR 225 million. The appropriate funds are used to purchase energy equipment for Ukrainian energy companies in order to carry out repair and restoration work at energy facilities that were damaged by Russian strikes," the deputy minister said.
In addition, since the outset of Russia’s full-scale military aggression, 89 cargoes with humanitarian aid for the energy sector, which is over 1,192 tons, have arrived from Germany to Ukraine.
Hrynchuk briefed the delegation on the results of the repair campaign at energy facilities, which became the largest such effort in the history of Ukraine. She also spoke of measures to strengthen the protection of energy infrastructure to ensure the stable operation of the power system throughout winter months.
The parties discussed the recovery needs of the Ukrainian energy sector, given the tasks of the green transition and climate goals, as well as the prospects for the development of renewables. Svitlana Hrynchuk emphasized that the relevant tasks are enshrined in the Energy Strategy, where Ukraine sets itself the ambitious task of becoming Europe’s green energy hub.
Members of the Bundestag assured Hrynchuk they are ready to continue to support Ukraine and its energy sector and remain interested in receiving the updates on the required assistance.
