Project on temporary hydraulic structure in place of Kakhovka HPP ready for implementation – Ukrhydroenergo
The relevant statement was made by Ukrhydroenergo PrJSC CEO Ihor Syrota during a nationwide telethon, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
A year ago, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine endorsed a decision to develop a project on temporary connection between the left and right banks of the Kherson region and preventing the operation of the water reservoir.
“Such projects on temporary hydraulic structures are already available and ready for implementation,” Syrota noted.
In his words, hydro power engineers are waiting for the de-occupation of territories to start relevant works.
According to Syrota, the consequences of Russia’s blowing up of the Kakhovka HPP will be accumulating over time. Namely, this refers to the lack of water resources to fully meet the needs of the agricultural sector in southern Ukraine, as well as the manufacturing industry.
A reminder that Russian invaders blew up the Kakhovka HPP dam on June 6, 2023. Four regions of Ukraine were affected, such as Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Kherson and Mykolaiv. A total of 1.5 million people were left without water supply services.
As estimated by the Ukrainian Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Ministry, the total amount of losses caused by Russia’s blowing up of the Kakhovka HPP exceeded UAH 146 billion.
