Ukraine's central Kyiv region will receive EUR 8.6 million from the Belgian development agency Enabel for shelters and the reconstruction of educational institutions.

Kyiv regional governor Ruslan Kravchenko announced this on Facebook, Ukrinform reports.

The agreement with Enabel was reached during the Ukraine Recovery Conference.

The funds have been allocated for five objects.

In particular, the agency is providing more than EUR 1.3 million for the construction of a shelter at a school in Shevchenkove, Velyka Dymerka community, and more than EUR 2.4 million for shelters at schools in Novi Petrivtsi and Baryshivka.

Enabel is also allocating over UAH 4.8 million for the reconstruction of a school in the village of Shpytky, Dmytrivka community.

The Belgian agency will also sponsor the reconstruction of a medical college in Makariv. The final amount for it has not yet been determined.

"Russia's full-scale invasion requires us to take new approaches to the organization of the educational process. Today, we are working not only to restore institutions that were destroyed and damaged by the Russians. We are also working to rebuild those that have been in need of repairs for a long time. And the main thing is to increase the safety of education," Kravchenko said.

He said the main requirement was the provision of shelters. And it's not just about repairing basements, but about organizing a space where children can stay comfortably for a long time, he said.

To date, more than 1,200 shelters have been created in educational institutions of all types and forms of ownership.

"The work is ongoing. And I am grateful to the international partners who are involved in the implementation of new similar projects," Kravchenko added.
