FAO donating 245 power generators to Ukrainian businesses
That’s according to the Ukrainian Ministry of Agrarian Policy, Ukrinform reports.
"As part of a broader initiative by FAO, the Ministry of Agriculture, and the German government, it is planned to provide 245 generators with a capacity of up to 440 kW to small and medium-sized enterprises from Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zaporizhia, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Sumy, Kharkiv, Kherson, and Chernihiv regions," the report reads.
It is noted that 114 generators have already been delivered and handed over, while 131 generators are set to be distributed in the coming weeks among enterprises working in the field of animal husbandry, processing, and production of basic food products, such as bread, meat, and milk.
"By providing farmers and processors with reliable energy sources, not only do we ensure uninterrupted food production, we also support food security for the local population. Even during power outages, everyone can consume fresh, useful and high-quality products," explained Mauro Minetti, FAO’s cash and voucher assistance specialist for Ukraine.
In total, FAO received 395 applications from food producers and processors, based in the nine front-line regions of Ukraine, in need of an additional electricity generation capacity.
According to Ansgar Aschfal, First Secretary at the German Embassy in Ukraine, food and agriculture advisor, Germany will continue to support Ukraine in developing and restoring the agricultural sector.
As reported by the Ministry of Agricultural Policy, such assistance is part of the comprehensive FAO Emergency Response Plan for 2024, aimed at protecting agricultural livelihoods and supporting the rural population in war-affected areas across Ukraine.
As reported, with the financial support of the German government, the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) will provide 17 generators to Ukrainian agricultural producers and processors.
