Russia has up to six Belarusian airfields at disposal to pose threat to Ukraine - Air Force
In general, Russia uses about 40 airfields to carry out airstrikes against Ukraine, of which five or six are located on the territory of Belarus.
That’s according to Yuriy Ihnat, the spokesman for the Air Force Command, who spoke at a briefing at the Ukraine-Ukrinform Media Center.
"There are at least five to six such main airfields that Russia uses to post a certain threat from this direction. In total, Russia uses nearly 40 airfields for attacks on Ukraine. That is, in order to accommodate their tactical aviation, their aviation group. It’s not only tactical aviation, but also helicopters, cargo planes, fighter jets, bombers, and ground attack aircraft," Ihnat said.
According to the spokesman, Russians never left the airfields of Belarus. Their planes are in the Belarus airspace. In particular, since the full-scale invasion, one or several long-range radar detection A-50s have been flying there, tracking all air targets on the territory of Ukraine. This type in conjunction with IL-22 relay aircraft. There is also a MiG-31.
"Also, Russian tactical aviation is constantly stationed at Belarusian airfields," added the spokesman for the Air Force Command.
Ihnat emphasized that the Russians move equipment to Belarusian airfields depending on tasks. Aviation is a fairly mobile, dynamic type of forces that can deploy quickly.
"Today, by the way, the enemy aviation activity also picked up on the front. It is clear that our pilots also carry out their strikes,” Ihnat said, adding that each day, 10 to 15 air group strikes are carried out.
As reported, full-scale Russian military aggression has been ongoing in Ukraine since February 24. The defense forces are fiercely repelling the onslaught of Russian invaders.
