President: New package of US assistance will allow replacing brigades currently on battlefield
A new package of US aid will allow Ukraine to replenish reserves and replace brigades currently on the battlefield.
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky said this during a joint press conference with U.S. President Joe Biden on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Italy, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.
"This package makes it possible to staff those reserves, those guys, those brigades that will come for rotation. So that those guys who are tired, who are on the battlefield, can rest, the brigades can recover, so that other brigades with equipment can replace them. This is what this package provides," Zelensky said.
He noted that Ukraine was indeed expecting a fundamental support package from the United States Congress.
"It was a big pause for our soldiers, first of all. But it is important that we finally have this package. It will definitely strengthen our soldiers. Yes, it gave the enemy an opportunity to try to occupy Kharkiv during this pause of 6-8 months, but this attempt was stopped. In spite of everything, our soldiers foiled all their plans. I think this is the most important thing," the President noted.
He also stressed that "we have been holding out without the package for 8 months and the Russians have not had any success during this time".
As Ukrinform reported, on 20 April, the lower house of the US Congress passed the draft law H.R.8035 "On Supplemental Appropriations for Ukraine's Security - 2024", which provides more than USD 60 billion to support Ukraine. The upper house of the US Congress passed the bill on 23 April, and US President Joe Biden signed it into law on 24 April.
