SBU detains Ukrenergo employee for leaking sensitive information
The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has documented the subversive activities of an official from the Ukrenergo who allegedly justified Russia’s armed aggression.
The SBU reports this on Telegram, Ukrinform saw.
The individual in question, a senior security department official at the state energy company, was responsible for protecting strategically important sites in Ukraine's Unified Energy System.
According to the case details, the official allegedly attempted to justify Russian war crimes, including airstrikes on civilian infrastructure, in conversations with colleagues and acquaintances.
Investigations reveal that during phone calls, he allegedly leaked information to acquaintances about the damage resulting from missile and drone attacks on the Ukrainian energy infrastructure. He also reportedly praised the Kremlin regime, questioned Ukraine's sovereignty, and even expressed a desire for mass harm to Ukrainians.
The SBU cyber specialists documented the official’s actions in stages, ultimately detaining him at his residence in Kyiv.
A linguistic analysis initiated by the SBU confirmed the illegal nature of his activities in support of the aggressor country. Based on the evidence collected, the SBU investigators charged him under Article 436-2, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (justification, recognition as lawful, or denial of Russia’s armed aggression against Ukraine, and glorification of its participants, committed by an official).
The suspect faces up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property. The investigation is ongoing to uncover all the details of the crime, including unauthorized dissemination of state secret information.
Previously, the SBU also charged a resident of Donetsk for collaborating with the Russian forces, looting residents in Kherson region, and participating in combat as part of the Russian army.
