A delegation including members of the U.S. Senate Subcommittee on State, Foreign Operations, and Related Programs, as well as representatives from the U.S. Embassy, led by Ambassador Bridget Brink, visited one of the units of the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.

That’s according to a report by the agency’s press service, seen by Ukrinform.

During the visit, the bipartisan delegation held talks with the chief of the State Border Guard Service, Lieutenant General Serhiy Deineko, and Commander of the National Guard, Brigadier General Oleksandr Pivnenko.

The Ukrainian side thanked the delegation for constant support from the U.S. and briefed senators on the latest battlefield developments, the effectiveness of weapons, equipment, and other capabilities provided by international partners, in particular the United States, to Ukraine’s Defense Forces. Current and prospective needs for such assistance to protect Ukraine were also discussed.

Particular attention was paid to ensuring the needs for the effective operation of mobile air defense groups, which help protect civilians and infrastructure from the constant Russian terror involving kamikaze drones and other lethal arms.

The Head of the State Border Guard Service said that the mobile groups comprised of border guards have shot down almost 260 Shahed drones, and thanked the United States, in particular the Law Enforcement Affairs Department of the U.S. Embassy in Ukraine (StateINL), for helping the State Border Guard Service and the National Guard be more effective in countering air threats.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, on December 2, the United States administration announced a new package of security assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $725 million, which includes HIMARS rockets, artillery rounds, unmanned aerial systems, Stinger systems, and other capabilities.
