U.S. commends Ukraine's aspirations for reform, implementation of IMF program - Yellen

U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen expressed support for the Ukrainian government's dedication to reform and efforts to meet the benchmarks specified in the recently approved IMF program for Ukraine in order to put the country on a “sound economic path.”

She stated this on Thursday during a joint press conference with Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal of Ukraine in Washington, Ukrinform's own correspondent reports.

"I commend your commitment to meeting the reform agenda and benchmarks outlined in the IMF program," the head of the U.S. Treasury noted.

She emphasized that Ukraine government’s dedication to accountability, good governance, and ensuring the responsible use of international aid is a "significant step" toward putting Ukraine on a sound economic path.

"Make no mistake: the United States has stood with Ukraine since Day One of this war. And we will continue to stand with Ukraine for as long as it takes," Secretary Yellen emphasized.

According to the Treasury chief, the United States is proud to be a leading partner of Ukraine. In this connection, she recalled President Zelensky's words that supporting Ukraine is not about charity, but an investment in democracy and global security.

As Ukrinform reported earlier, U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen announced Washington's plans to provide Ukraine with additional financial support and other forms of assistance by September 2023.
