‘Reporters Without Borders’ urges separatists to release journalist Aseyev
The Reporters Without Borders (RWB), the international human rights organization, urges the separatists in Donbas to release journalist Stanislav Aseyev, who has been illegally detained in occupied Donetsk since early June 2017.
This was stated by Johann Bihr, the head of the Eastern Europe and Central Asia desk at Reporters Without Borders.
"Eduard Nedeliayev, a blogger who had been held for more than a year by separatist forces in the eastern city of Luhansk, was released yesterday in the exchange of prisoners with the Ukrainian government.... We call on the separatists to release journalist Stanislav Aseyev as well," he stressed.
As reported, arrested by the self-proclaimed “Luhansk People’s Republic” in November 2016, Nedeliayev was sentenced to 14 years in prison on charges of spying and inciting hatred. Aseyev, a reporter for Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, is being held on similar charges by the “Donetsk People’s Republic.”
