Ukraine reserves right to self-defense - Zelensky

According to the Charter of the United Nations, Ukraine reserves the right to self-defense.

President Volodymyr Zelensky addressed the issue in a video address to the nation overnight Tuesday, following Russia’s move to recognize the independence of the so-called “LPR” and “DPR” entities, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

"Our borders are well protected. A system of territorial defense has been created. Our partners support us. According to Article 51 of the UN Charter, Ukraine reserves the right to individual and collective self-defense. We can clearly tell provocations from the offensive of the aggressor’s troops,” Zelensky said, adding that the authorities “will never hide the truth from you.”

“As soon as we see the situation change, as soon as we see the risks increase, you will know this," Zelensky said.

At the same time, the president noted that now there are no reasons for chaotic action. "We will do everything to keep it that way," the head of state stressed.

As reported, Russian President Vladimir Putin during a 55-minute televised speech declared recognition of the independence of the so-called "DPR" and "LPR," signing off the relevant decrees.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine stated that Moscow will be fully responsible for the destruction of the Minsk agreements and the process of peaceful settlement of the armed conflict in eastern Ukraine in the event of recognition of these illegal entities.
