European Commission President: This war will be a strategic failure for Putin

The unprovoked and brutal war that Russia launched against Ukraine will end in a strategic defeat for Vladimir Putin because Transatlantic unity and solidarity in countering this aggression are powerful as never before.

That’s according to Ursula von der Leyen, European Commission President, who spoke on Friday at a joint press conference with U.S. President Joe Biden in Brussels on Friday, March 25, an Ukrinform correspondent reports.

“We are determined to stand up against Russia’s aggressive war. This war will be a strategic failure for Putin. Our cooperation on the four successive waves of sanctions against Russia has been extraordinary and exceptional. The sanctions are now working their way deep into the Russian system, draining Putin’s resources to finance this atrocious war. Our work on sanctions also shows that when we act together, we’re stronger and we can really make a difference,” said von der Leyen.

She has stressed that the very fact of Joe Biden’s visit to Brussels and his participation in the European Council’s work sends a powerful message to the whole world: Transatlantic partnership is strengthening, Europe and North America are more united as ever.

Ursula von der Leyen has noted that the U.S. and EU continue active cooperation on many strategic directions, starting from humanitarian and security assistance to Ukraine and up to the issues of energy and a fight against common threats to democracy.

As reported, on February 24, 2022, Putin's Russia launched an unprovoked war against Ukraine. Russian forces have been bombing peaceful towns and villages, inflicting massive civilian casualties.

U.S. President Joe Biden arrived in Brussels yesterday to attend the NATO Summit, the G7, and the European Council. During the summits, the key topic was countering Russia's aggression against Ukraine and overcoming its consequences for the entire European and Euro-Atlantic security system.
