Zelensky meets with French FM, calls for new sanctions against Russia

President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky has met with Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Catherine Colonna.

"What is important right now is a very strong signal from France as one of the EU leaders regarding the sham referenda held by the Russian Federation at gunpoint, and the reaction to this should not be in words. We expect clear sanctions, both in the eighth package of sanctions against the Russian Federation, as well as separate signals about what will happen if the Russian Federation recognizes these sham referenda. NATO countries should show the whole world that they guarantee the security of any state on the European continent," Zelensky said, the President’s Office informs.

As the Head of State stressed, restoring Ukraine’s territorial integrity is impossible without modern weapons, noting that he appreciates the defense aid France has been providing all these months.

“I’m grateful to Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Catherine Colonna for the visit to Ukraine! It’s important for us to know that France is willing to stand with Ukraine for as long as it is needed,” the President added.

As reported, Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs of France Catherine Colonna is visiting Kyiv on Tuesday, September 27.
